FM meets the Armenian counterpart in New York to discuss the bilateral relations

Foreign Minister Dr. Ibrahim Al-Jaafari and his Armenian counterpart Mr. Edward Nalbandian discussed bilateral relations between Baghdad and Yerevan and means of strengthening them to serve the interests of the two friendly peoples on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly's 72nd session in New York.

Al-Jaafari appreciated the role of Armenia in support of Iraq in international forums and the war against terrorist gangs, stressing the importance of continued support of friendly countries to Iraq and contributing to the reconstruction of the infrastructure of Iraqi cities and the return of displaced persons to their areas of residence.

His Excellency pointed out the need to hold meetings of the Joint Iraqi-Armenian Committee and activate cooperation in all fields.

From his side, Edward Nalbandian stressed his country's keenness to preserve the unity and sovereignty of Iraq and to develop bilateral relations with Iraq in various fields. He directed Dr. Al- Jaafari to visit Armenia in order to upgrade relations to meet the aspiration of the two friendly peoples.
