Ambassador Hrachya Poladian met High officials in Iraqi Kurdistan

On April 4-6, Ambassador of Armenia to Iraq Hrachya Poladian met with Kurdistan Regional Security Council Chancellor Masrour Barzani in the capital Erbil during his visit to Iraqi Kurdistan. During the meeting, the sides underlined the necessity of developing the historically formed relations between the Armenian and Kurdish peoples. Ambassador Poladian congratulated Chancellor Barzani on his election as a candidate for the Prime Minister of the Iraqi Kurdistan Autonomous Region. The interlocutors exchanged views on deepening bilateral trade relations, as well as agreed to continue their contacts. Taking the opportunity, Ambassador Hrachya Poladian expressed his gratitude to the Iraqi Kurdistan for the land giving for free to the Armenian community, as well as government-sponsored construction of the Armenian Church “Holy Cross” of Erbil (consecration ceremony of a church took place on April 6).

Then Ambassador Hrachya Poladian met with Speaker of the Parliament of the Autonomous Region, Mrs. Vala Farid, Deputy Speaker Hemi Hawrami, Secretary Muna Kahveci. During the meeting the parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation between the Armenian and Kurdish parliamentarians, emphasizing the ways of sharing the history of the two peoples and developing good-neighborly relations in the future.

During the meeting with Minister of Foreign Relations of Iraqi Kurdistan, Mr. Falah Mustafa, the possibility of opening the Consulate General of the Republic of Armenia in Erbil was touched upon. The interlocutors touched upon trade and cultural issues of mutual interest, regional developments, the protection of rights of ethnic and religious minorities. Minister Falah Mustafa expressed the Government's approach to achieving the settlement of unresolved issues through peaceful coexistence and dialogue.

Ambassador Hrachya Poladian also discussed issues of mutual interest with the Minister of Internal Affairs Karim Sindjari, the governor of Erbil Nawzad Hadi and Vahik Saranyan, the only Armenian parliamentarian represented in the parliament of the Iraqi Kurdistan.
