Minister of Defense of Iraq arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

The delegation led by Minister of Defense of Iraq Juma Anad Saadoun Khattab yesterday arrived in Armenia on an official visit.

Today’s official reception ceremony at the Ministry of Defense was followed by the personal talks of the defense ministers of Armenia and Iraq and the meeting of the delegations.

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for cooperation and attached importance to the potential for cooperation in several sectors of mutual interest. They also discussed regional security issues. Minister Harutyunyan presented the situation created after the hostilities and the course of implementation of the agreements reached after the cessation of hostilities.

Ministers Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Juma Anad Saadoun Khattab signed an intent agreement on cooperation in the defense sector that lays down 13 sectors of mutual interest for cooperation. The document also envisages drafting and signing a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Ministries of Defense of Armenia and Iraq.

Today the delegation led by the Iraqi defense minister also visited Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide Memorial and paid tribute to the canonized martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.
